Strawberries
Eat them freely, because they're the perfect snack any time. Low on calories and loaded with nutrients. Just half a cup of strawberries provides over 70% of your daily Vitamin C, plus fiber and a ton of antioxidants.
Blueberries
Blueberries improve circulation and fight free-radical damage to cells and tissues. Enjoy them on top of oatmeal, in wholemeal muffins or low fat plain yogurt.
Zucchini / Squash
With it's bright colors and earthy flavor, squash is great in stir frys and salads. Zucchini grilled on the BBQ makes the perfect side dish to any meal.
Capsicum
Sweet red capsicums are a good source of beta carotene and top of the vegetable charts for important antioxidants. Green ones also contain large amounts of Vitamin C. Capsicums are also great grilled on the BBQ, add a drizzle of olive oil some cracked black pepper, low fat fetta and red onion and you have a nice accompaniment to any grilled meat.
Mango
When I think of mangoes I think of Prawn and Mango salad. Perfect on a hot summer day. Mangoes are a delicious low-calorie way to bulk up a meal with an exotic flavor
Kangaroo
Kangaroo burgers are lean, and far lower in fat and calories than beef, chicken or pork. Great source of iron and omega 3 fats. Try the patties open-faced on half a whole grain bun, hold the cheese and mayo and pile on the lettuce, tomato, onion and relish.
Peaches
No need to pass on dessert with the bounty of stone fruits in summer. Grilled peaches and nectarines get even more flavor as the heat caramelizes their natural sugars. Top with lo-fat ice cream or ricotta cheese and you won't feel deprived.
