Late Night Cravings

Do you ever get the munchies at night?  The later you stay up the more likelier you are to succumb  to an attack of the Night Terrors ( craving junk food)

Dinner is over, and now you are perched on the couch watching TV or a DVD. You don't know what to do with your hands while you are just sitting, so out come the chips, chocolate, fizzy drinks any thing you can lay your hands on so you can keep them busy while you're watching the box. Is that you?

Most of us associate movie watching with eating or drinking. There's no problem with that except you will probably be going to bed shortly, and not have enough time to burn those calories. Keep doing this on a regular basis and the next thing you know, you cannot get into your favorite pair of jeans.

The alternative. Look for ways to keep your hands busy. Try holding your partner's hand, you may go to bed sooner than you thought, or you could opt for lower calorie munchies.

Air-popped corn, pretzels, fruit, cottage cheese, whole wheat pita chips and salsa, sipping  sparkling or soda water with a dash of lime, better still have a mug of warm skim milk with a teaspoon of honey. Milk is sleep inducing. It has an essential amino acid called Tryptophen  which is a natural sedative. These tips are worth a try, but for the people that wake up and go to the fridge, eat something and go back to bed, well you really need to address that issue and find out if it is real hunger that's making you eat or just habit.

Habits are learned, and can be unlearned. Just becoming aware of what you are eating, why and when you are eating, will teach you a lot about yourself.

 Here's to your health
